“The Gate of the Exonerated” at 110th Street and Central Park South commemorates the experience of the Exonerated Five and honors all of those wrongly convicted of crimes. This is the first entrance to be named in Central Park since 1862.

The Exonerated Five

Kevin Richardson and four other teens, Antron McCray, Yusef Salaam, Raymond Santana, and Korey Wise were falsely accused and wrongfully convicted in the infamous 1989 Central Park Five-Jogger Case. The convictions against the five were vacated in 2002 transforming their lives to the historic “Exonerated Five”.

The case and the brotherhood of the “Exonerated Five” has become a prominent example of racial profiling, discrimination, and inequality within the legal system and the media.

Kevin is now a voice and a national hero in the fight for justice reform in our judicial system.
