Kevin D. Richardson

Kevin Richardson's life story is a testament to the power of resilience, hope, and the unwavering belief in justice even in the face of adversity. At just 14 years old, he found himself thrust into the spotlight as one of the falsely accused participants in the infamous Central Park Jogger Case, which later became known as "The Central Park Five" case. Despite the darkness of those years, Kevin's journey has been one of transformation and triumph.

Today, some 35 years later, Kevin Richardson stands as a beacon of hope and inspiration, having emerged victorious from the shadows of wrongful conviction. As a proud member of "The Exonerated Five," he has dedicated himself to advocating for justice, empowerment, and positive change.

Kevin's commitment to leaving a lasting legacy of inspiration and empowerment is evident in his numerous endeavors. In December 2022, a Central Park entrance was renamed "Gate of the Exonerated" in honor of him and his fellow exonerees solidifying their place in history.  A proud moment came in 2020 when Syracuse University established the "Our Time Has Come" - Kevin Richardson Scholarship Fund, providing educational opportunities for underprivileged youth—a cause close to his heart.

Being awarded an Honorary Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts from Syracuse University in 2021 further cemented Kevin's place as a trailblazer, marking the first time in the institution's 150-year history that such an honor was bestowed.

As a motivational speaker and advocate, Kevin travels the country shedding light on the injustices within the legal system and collaborating with organizations like the Innocence Project to effect change. His efforts have resulted in legislative victories,

including the passage of laws requiring the video recording of interrogations of minors to prevent coercion and manipulation.

In November 2023, Kevin expanded his impact with the establishment of The Kevin Richardson Foundation, dedicated to providing tools and resources for turning life's challenges into opportunities. Through his foundation, Kevin continues to inspire perseverance and determination, reminding others that dreams can be turned into reality with unwavering spirit.

Today, Kevin resides in New Jersey with his wife, Johansy and their two daughters, determined to lay the foundation for their future and carry on his legacy. His story, as depicted in "When They See Us," fuels his passion to advocate for positive change in the judicial system, using his platform to reach people globally.

Kevin Richardson's journey is a testament to the human spirit's ability to overcome adversity, inspiring others to believe in the power of resilience, hope, and the pursuit of justice.
